This is a partial recording. I'm just trying to "give ya what I got". I plan to continue posting old meetings that I have, as well as new ones that occur. If anyone has meetings to "fill in the gaps", and they're pretty big gaps, please find a way to get them to me (or Larry/Liz, Steve, Bob, etc.), so I can copy & post them. Thanks.

"Counsel is wrong"??????????????  This wanna be lawyer shows his arrogance once again. The animosity of Bruce and Brenda towards Mrs. Pillsbury is shameful. And this is where Bruce and Brenda put on their Sewer Crowns and begin their work to destroy the town's budget by their off with their heads behavior. It is the basic reason they fired McAuliffe. He--and Mr. Heaney--could foresee the devastation to our budget and simply wanted to make the enterprise fund changes over a few years instead of all at once.

Remember a while ago when that letter surfaced about our bos not following the advice of K and P? The letter was a warning by counsel. I guess Sweet B and his sidekick B have been ignoring counsel's advice for a long time. $$$$$$$$$ down the drain and into the K and P pockets. Don't like what counsel says? Hire another lawyer who will agree with you and call it special counsel. More money down the drain. Three years later and they are still at it.

Personal vendettas? Bullying tactics? It's been going on long enough. Get your friends and neighbors out to town meeting and to vote two of these clowns out in April.

Get warmed up for TM by seeing what happened at night two(?) of the Fall '06 TM.
I kind of messed up on this one. Almost all (8 min.) of Part 1 is waiting around for the meeting to start and groovy community TV music. I also cut off the final minute of the meeting (I may go back and fix this).
There is a link to that TM's Warrant at the bottom of the vids.

I wanted to post this comment that someone added during the latest Courier comment party (it's tough coming up with new names for them). I just thought it was a nice thing to hear, for me personally, and pretty telling of how "Paul Shooter's" writing's were viewed by a non-partisan person, who thought that "Paul Shooter" & PShooter are one and the same. We're not! He's giving me a bad name! I beg your indulgence.

gaga1935
I am new to this on-line stuff and fairly new to town. WarehamObserver I have visited your site, and while I do find some of the pictures (probably meant as a joke) tasteless I simply chose to ignore them. I am a senior adult and can figure out for myself what is serious and what is not. I will tell you that your Mr Pshooter has done an excellent job with the video like presentations about the town charter, by-laws, the Warrant, and the many meetings that take place in our town. I don't have alot of tme to attend or read so listening to them while I am working has been a good thing. Tell Mr Shooter I for one would wish he would stop writing those hateful articles and concentrate on the videos, documents and meetings. I look forwartd to the meeting on Thursday and Saturday to see what the issues are all about. Do we need to submit one list for both or a separate list for each?
Thanks
Mary

My favorite video post to date, hands down.

Continue (56:00)

Haunted Cry of a Long Gone Bird

This NOVA episode joins amateur naturalist Richard Wheeler as he paddles his kayak from Newfoundland to Cape Cod.

Kayak Route Map
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/teachers/programs/images/2113_gonebird.gif
His route follows the migration route of the great auk, a sea bird that became extinct in 1844. This route is significant to Wheeler because the great auk was destroyed through excessive hunting by humans. In conversations with fishermen, scientists, and local people along his trip, Wheeler draws parallels between the destruction of the great auk and the current trends in over-fishing. A camera mounted on the kayak provides a first-hand view of huge trawlers, independent fishing vessels, and communities that depend on North Atlantic fish. By retracing the 1,500 mile migration route of the great auk, Wheeler hopes to raise awareness of the fragile ecosystems of the North Atlantic coast.
Haunted Cry of a Long Gone Bird

"Man is a predator of the highest order. We talk about management. We talk about conservation but, the forces of exploitation are so powerful."

"Why do we need to rope off a tiny piece of it and say, "This is mine!", before we act responsibly?"

Dick Wheeler "Haunted Cry of a Long Gone Bird"

Dick, you get my vote for "Great Sachem" (or Scottish Duke, if you prefer).  I'd say I'm quickly becoming your biggest fan. But, I get the feeling there's a rather large crowd to contend with.

If any of you missed the selectmen's meeting where the trustees were told they were not legally appointed on the advice of K and P attorney Corbo, take a look at the 7/24/07 clip above. It's a short meeting called only for the trustee issue.

The trustees were not told beforehand that they would be dismissed and thought they were only there to discuss the appointment process.  Notice that the trustees were more than willing to let the selectmen appoint future trustees. The trustees had been appointed by the town's appointing authority since 1977 including the chair of the BoS as part of the authority. Trustees were sworn in by the town clerk as well. In my opinion, this was totally mishandled by the BoS and is another example of poor leadership and management.  There was no reason to tell the trustees to apply for their positions. They could have been immediately appointed to fulfill their terms, and as the trustees were more than willing to change their method of appointment, the future trustees would have been appointed by the BoS. If it had been any other board than the library board who were found not to be "properly" appointed, I wonder if they would have been summarily dismissed and told they could fill out applications for the position.

Thanks for posting this one PShooter. It was the beginning of two years of unnecessary legal bills for the town.  Who was the real winner in this case??? K and P.

The more I think about the unprovoked attack on the WFL by the BOS, the more i think that action has to be taken against K&P.   They KNEW that the funds  the BOS wanted to get their sticky fingers on was protected by a hallowed law called  501(C)3. They knew that they were legitimating a suit, which if the BOS won , would make it possible for the mayor of Cambidge to go after Harvard's endowment ! A BOS victory would have been a national news!  Yet K&P gave them legal "cover".

And Wareham taxpayers funded it.

The Rag played a big part in the boondoggle: 'way back when I entertained the thought   that Slager had some smarts and was his own man, I urged him to read the 501(C)3 legislation. He never acknowledged that advice.  He could have kept it from happening, but he chose to put out the fire by throwing gasoline  on it.

Nora & Dick,  I'll go one step further and state here that as per G.L. Ch. 78,
Section 10 library trustee "SHALL" be elected by ballot at a meeting.
Regardless of the past practise, good leadership would have handled it all more professionally.  It was evident by Mr. Sauvageau's line of questioning that he was insinuating that there had been some wrong doing and /or improprieties and he was after the funds.

If we had competent elected officials that could read and comprehend and town counsel that could do the same, we could have saved thousands of $$$
and the embarrassment this leadership has caused us over the past two plus
years.

Bob, it is much more complicated than that because the trustees were a private corporation dating from 1891 in a totally private Wareham Free Library. Trustees in MA are either elected, appointed, or self appointing. I don't have time now, but today, I will start a thread to explain the public/private concept and the vote that took place at town meeting in the late 70s to appoint a committee to see if the corporation would turn its assets to the town. The truth will surprise some of the people who thought the library trustees were wrong. We have documentation for all of this, and so did K and P and the town's insurance lawyers as all that was turned over.  More on a new thread later. Thanks for taking notice of this. For two years we had to keep our mouths shut even through all the lies and the nasty comments almost weekly by the bos. But now I feel I can explain what happened.

I'm looking forward  to reading  the truth about the law suit that never should have happened.  There are two chapters that I am especially looking fotward to: The first is the full story about a name they tried to make synonomous with  Watergate, but which has not passed their lips since  the day when the federal court slam dunked them: Spinney. It will be a great "read" for all of us, but for the BOS it will be a thread they will dread.

Another great chapter will  happen when the BOS depositions become public.   A hint: Not one of them understood the difference between public money and private money   and most had not even read the case.
