Wareham Police Chief Richard Stanley is no longer working for the town of Wareham, according to three separate sources.
Hold your applause, this gets worse. The Board of Selectmen and Police Department will say nothing but those knowledgeable on the subject insist Stanley has taken an, "extended leave of absence".
According to eyewitness accounts, upon learning his cruiser budget request was denied during the last night of Spring Town Meeting, 2013-06-19, the chief walked out, past uniformed Police officers and EMS personnel, and drove himself to St. Lukes Hospital in New Bedford complaining of chest pains. No one reports seeing Stanley in Wareham since.
Selectmen Steve Holmes and board Chair Peter Teitelbaum have, the same sources say, deflected and refused to answer direct questions on the subject.
A retired police officer calls this, "A well conceived plan to line his pockets at taxpayers expense. This way [Stanley] gets 72% of his pay, tax free for life and full medical coverage. If I were the Town Administrator, I sure would want to see all the medical papers to back up his claim. I honestly am surprised that he did not pull this “Heart Attack on Demand” trick before this."
Remember, as usual you read it here first... more than a month after the event. Local reporters - who are paid to cover stories like this - are not doing their jobs.

Stanley has never been accused of being stupid. He is a mooch that feels more entitled than half the scumbags that pull this same crap all of the time. I hope the BOS realizes their mistake, hire a Chief from within, at a reasonable salary, and carry on.

Dan...............I think you are asking for the impossible. The BOS would never admit to or realize that a mistake has been made by them. Someone ripping off the system for a large chunk of cash would never show on their radar. Just think how long it has taken for this information to come out................We have not heard a peep from them. Just another bunch of do nothing bums. They lie, make excuses, deny and anything else they can do to absolve themselves of wrong doing.
I am beginning to feel that this bunch is no better than Brucie, Brenda, Cronie, Jane, Walter and all the rest of the former Selectmen who failed to do a thing to save the Town.

Chief Stanley was the best thing to happen to your Police Department in a long time.It is unfortunate some of the Bobos in Wareham can't think outside the box. Chief Stanley is better off in the long run not having to deal with those individuals

Hey Stanleyally............you are obviously a big time supporter who will soon be banned from posting your BS. You may even be Stanley !!!!
Give us a break.....this is 72% on demand. Been going on for years and will go on for many more. When he was in Andover he double dipped the Town of Andover and Wareham. The moron Selectmen in Wareham allowed this to happen for reasons that are still unknown to most. This guy saw the advantage to get on the North Shore Band Wagon and reap the bucks at the expense of the citizens of Wareham. Some will tout that he got or Department National Accreditation.............any one could do this as there is a laundry list of items that must be completed to gain the accreditation. He didn't do it; he assigned others to do the actual work. This guy has been a known bullshitter in law enforcement circles for years, like the old chief in Middleboro...................never do anything that does not make me look like a hero. Didn't Lincoln say you can fool some all the time, but can't fool all, all of the time. Well Stanley has not fooled anyone. Every action he has taken has been to provide him with the great pension benefit. Remember it is 72% tax free.
Stanley is a true enemy of the Wareham taxpayer and voter.

I said it before, I'll say it again: Stanley is the mooch scumbag of all mooch scumbags.
Stanleyally is obviously one of his butt buddies. Probably, as Quahog implied, a kiss ass cop that just lost his best friend.

Do your homework. Chief Stanley did not come from Andover.Secondly , if accreditation is so easy , why don't all departments have it? Hope your happy with your new, hired from within, Police Chief. I expect you will have a good time sharing a brain

What Departments are not accredited within the five or six Counties nearby?
Offline
#12 2013-07-28 15:07:34
Accreditation is a commitment to assign someone within the department to work exclusively on policy, rules and regulations and training of employees. It is not cheap to do and the department must be totally committed to obtaining the accreditation. I never said the process was easy and how you formed that opinion just shows you can't even read and comprehend the written word. OK......so it was North Andover and for you to state that the people who are currently running the department on an acting basis are less than qualified shows that you are ill informed and have to make a parting shot for your pal. Give them a chance to prove their worth and capability the cream will rise to the top.
No, you brand them "Half Brains" I think the only one lacking brains and the ability to think clearly is you stanleyally !!!!!
Go back North where you belong. Wareham will sink or swim on it's own, thankfully without your help.

I wish the best for your new Chief . The brain comment was unfair of me. Don't negate the good Chief Stanley did for your Town.I believe the majority of the Police Department would agree. If you feel Chief Stanley was bad for Wareham, ask yourself the question as to why the Town Fathers didn't seek a Chief from within...

I have. So have most of the other correspondents here. Ever hear a public servant say anything, much less concede error, when a deal turns sour? True, just when we've heard more than enough of Rick Stanley's part-time pick-pocket bully-bluster, turns out we're on the hook until he flat-lines.

He will be living in a better neighborhood than me. I can't seem to figure out a way to mooch off of someone that will pay me over 100k per year...come to think of it...I wouldn't.

Is it rumor or fact that Chief Stanley was given a salary that is higher than the police chief in Boston?
If so, what special attributes did he bring to the table in order to justify the salary in the first place?

That's a popular local assumption but it's hard to tell how much we're paying. The level of hide and go cheat here, as I've said before, is shameless. Stanley's wages were omitted from the Town Report prior to 2011. Start here...

You can also ask Richard Stanley's apparent patrons, Town Moderator Claire Smith, Selectman Steve Holmes and current Town Administrator Derek Sullivan, but don't expect to learn much. You will meet Town Council Richard Bowen, billing Wareham extravagantly for his corporeal presence.

In my many past posts, I have urged the "canning" of Richard Bowen..........no one person has screwed the taxpayers and citizens of Wareham more than Bowen. His racket is totally devoted to relieving you the taxpayer of as much money as he can. Supported by our past and present Selectmen, no one excluded, he has grown rich for bogus and unreliable decisions that in fact screw the citizens of Wareham.
Wake up..............put pressure on the do nothing Selectmen to rid the Town of this despicable leach !!!!!

Whenever I need comedic relief, all I need to do is go on the Wareham website. Some of you constantly complain about the Town Fathers, but do you ever do anything about it? Maybe some new viewpoints might be the answer. You blame and defame Chief Stanley but he only did what any of you would have done in the same position: taken the job and the salary....maybe time to look in the mirror....especially you, Quahog

OK you Stanleyally.....you must have all the answers. What do you expect people do other than have your say at the ballot box.
New viewpoints have been suggested over and over and nothing ever happens. This is not a new problem, this has taken years for us to wind up this way. Apathy is the killer of ideas and action, and Wareham voters like voters in almost all other towns suffer greatly from the problem.
I do look in the mirror every day and know what I have done and said. I don't have any problems. I have done my share and devoted my time, all to no avail.
I guess I will sit back and wait for your brilliance to show in future posts.
I would further add that not everyone retires with the 72% tax free deal. Some are honest and serve out their term and retire with dignity. There are always some who work the system to get the most with putting in the least and the old Heart Attack on demand has gotten tired. I doubt that the weak BOS in Town will put up any sort of a fight against Stanley and will roll over like they always do. A stroing BOS would insist of full medical proof before they will allow an act of fraud to take place. Take a good look at those EKG's
And by the way Ally, not everyone takes the easy way out....the majority choose to live and act honestly.
Wareham needs to have a BOS with the courage to stand up to abuse and fight for the taxpayer residents.

Good point. Most who retire at 72 percent are legit. Whose to say if Chief Stanley is legit. I can tell you from experience there are several hoops one must go through prior to getting approval. As for waiting for my brilliance, you don't set the bar very high.

Standard-Times, Two Months Late
By Curt Brown

August 15, 2013 12:00 AM
WAREHAM — Police Chief Richard M. Stanley has been out on medical leave since June but will not discuss the reason.
Meanwhile, Lt. Kevin Walsh is serving as acting chief, according to both the chief and a selectman.
Stanley, contacted Wednesday, confirmed he is on medical leave but refused to discuss his condition and referred all questions to Town Administrator Derek Sullivan. Sullivan did not return three calls Wednesday seeking comment.
Selectman Patrick G. Tropeano, who confirmed the administrative changes in the Police Department, said he did not know why the chief was on medical leave. He explained he has not spoken with Stanley and selectmen have not been informed.
Sullivan appointed Walsh as the acting chief and selectmen confirmed the appointment, according to Tropeano. "Someone has to be in charge while he (Stanley) is out," he said.
He referred further questions about the chief's medical leave to Sullivan.
Two calls each were made to Peter W. Teitelbaum, chairman of the board, and Selectman Stephen Holmes about the chief's condition but they were not returned.
Walsh, the department's public information officer, said Wednesday the chief has been on medical leave since June 18 and he has been acting chief for the last few weeks. He did not know exactly when he started as interim chief.
"We're functioning as normal and we don't anticipate any issues," he said.

Yeah....A Selectman that can't answer the question about why the Chief of Police is not working, out of commission for 2 months, and he doesn't know "why".
Wareham is a ship at sea without a Captain or competent crew. Ships eventually sink without proper leadership.
I could not write a book about Wareham's present condition and have it accepted as being realistic.
Very sad to watch what has been going on for the last three years. It's like watching a fatal accident on tape in slow motion.
I think that EVERYONE has given up that holds a position of power.
You get what you pay for....how much are the Selectmen paid?
Running a Town with an attorney sitting on your lap is impossible, just as it is in business.
Protect yourselves. Petition the State to take over the Town through receivership and watch the dominoes fall.

Dan, you hit the nail very, very hard on the head. This Town is on the rim of the drain and about to go down. Selectmen are a farce, joke, and laughable mistake. Imagine telling someone that you are a Selectman in Wareham. The echo's of laughter must resonate in their heads like a large bell.
THROW THE BUMS OUT IN THE NEXT ELECTION......NOT ONE DESERVES TO BE RE-ELECTED. THEY ARE A DISGRACE !!!!!!
