Michael Jones' post on Facebook after town meeting: "The proposal failed so the current government will continue.  My suggestion is to leave as soon as you can."
My suggestion to Mr. Jones:  Based on these sentiments, you should resign from any further participation on the Charter Review Committee.

Mr. Jones, Please! Feel free to leave as soon as YOU can, and take BOBO with you!  If it werent for his paper your article may have had somewhat of a fighting chance. The next TFHC conspiracy theory will be that Bobo is actually a top secret weapon from the Power Elite's arsenal that has been deployed to destroy the hypocrite elite's agenda.  So far the bobomatic3000 is running like a top!
Ill say it again, the BOS should disolve the CRC and regroup with all fresh blood.

After the vote on article 25, I leaned over and whispered to my "neighbor".."The price on his house just dropped by 20K."

...Sorry, Mick...some jokes are just too easy to pass on.

Here's an unpopular opinion.  I very strongly disagreed with Mr Jones, and he was extremely heavy-handed in trying to get the charter revision passed.  However, he has a right to his opinion.  He does not need to move nor is he a nut case.  The last time I looked, Wareham was still part of the USA.   You can agree to disagree.  And no, I'm not moving either.

I agree ggm..But Mick is the one who put his house up for sale..walked out of town meeting when "his" proposal failed (actually, he "walked out of town meeting" long before last Monday)..and suggested people "get out while they can" (So, I can't blame people for saying "adios, amigo!")..I'm convinced that if he could implement a representative government on his own for the town of Wareham "for our own good" he'd do it. That's not democracy. The citizens of Wareham have spoken. It's not a necessarily "easier" route to go the way they did..."easier" in some ways...but getting town meeting to eliminate town meeting is a tough hurdle..and would only be achieved by "stacking" the meeting with those who have the "special interest" of eliminating town meeting. Ironic, I think. There was all this talk about getting the vote to a wider electorate..but had it passed (the proposal, not article) then none of us would have had a voice in the legislative process..only our "representative's" would...(so you better hope they're "good")...then there was a lot of talk that said, "well, then the community's grown too large"...I don't know about that...and I don't think it's true.

The other way of making a change in the form of government..the way (I believe it should be done, if at all) is by an elected charter commission (I know..I've said it a million times)...but, think of all the time that was "wasted"...no changes to our current charter have been proposed. Technically there have been three town meeting's that have passed where I believe they could have "brought something forward"...and their appointments run through October (I believe)..which gives them one more town meeting. Had anyone desired a change in the form of government enough to go the elected charter commission route, they would have had to get more than 2300 signatures from registered voter's. That definitely would have been tough. But it would have clearly shown that people were "interested". If you can get 2300+ voter's to sign anything, I'ld say you have a great shot on getting anything "passed" on a ballot...Then an election would have been held to elect who would make up the commission, at the same time voter's would have decided whether they wanted it done at all. If they voted "yes"...then those elected would have worked on it, and eventually "presented it" for a vote at the ballot box. Sounds like alot of "red tape", right? Well it is...That's democracy..but the "process" has a purpose...(and don't you forget it : )

and now for a song...

It doesn't look like I will have a job soon, so I thought I would bring my superior intellect and great sesame seed buns to this site to offer wisdom and scathing criticism. Jones and Slager, a private think tank that specializes in poorly planned public relations,  are now regrouping. The attacks on the library, municipal maintenance, and our form of government were just the precursor to a much bigger prize. An inside source suggests this group will now focus on securing Swifts Beach and seceding from the state of Mass and possible the United States of American. The newly formed country will be aptly named the Republic of Enlightenment. No comment from Move Wareham Forward who is rumored to be on board with the newly formed Republic. Expert Michael John Schneider will be planning affordable housing while Ellen Begley will be put in charge of public transportation for the new republic.

It has just been reported that the Republic of Elightenment will be enlisting a current Swifts Beach resident as legal counsel. "It is a perfect fit. His palatial estate is located within our sovereign boundaries and his political savvy is well documented. We plan on offering him a contract with the stipulation that he pass the bar exam within 10 years. In exchange for his services, we will declare his debt to any state or federal organizations outside the boundaries of our republic to be null and void."

Negotiations are ongoing with a current Wareham official to oversee the planned gambling casino that will be built on property that was previously owned by Wareham. A spokesman for the republic said they plan a press release to be carried by the Enlightenment Observer.

Reports out of the Jones and Slager firm is that the new leader of the Republic of Elightenment will carry the official title of Imperial Ruler. The new constitution and charter will be drafted from a copy of the proposed Wareham charter. Small changes to include the following:
The Imperial Ruler is always right.
When the Imperial Ruler is questioned or challenged, the offending subject who questioned the Imperial Ruler will banished and/or subjected to verbal abuse.
The Imperial Ruler deems that all rules are final unless the Imperial Ruler chooses to ignore the rules.

Do you think it will be legal to use Eminent Domain twice in your new republic?

Who do you think will win the Beauty Pageant?

Mayor M,

a "Republic" ?????

Whatever happened to Jones and his mania for a "representative democracy" ??????

If I remember correctly (always a challenge for me), Jones couldn't write a sentence without his representative democracy mantra.

Perhaps he fell under the spell of the Axis of Evil Knievel. In order to gain access to the Republic, it is necessary to prove one's worthiness by a successful motorcycle jump across the Wareham River. Carrying, of course, a bag of fresh bagels with a variety of cream cheese spreads.

The dream team of Jones and Slager believe that the republic will be a representative democracy. One person, the Imperial Ruler, will represent all the people. There will also be a board of councilors. Their primary function will be to nod their heads when the Imperial Ruler speaks. This is democracy so sayeth the Imperial Ruler~!

A press release from the Enlightenment Observer is now stating that the legal counsel and Imperial Ruler will be consolidated as a cost savings.

One of the loyal subjects has smuggled a copy of the Wareham Week and unblocked access to this website. This has caused great consternation. The team of Jones and Slager are in the process of penning a letter to the editor titled, "Why Yaw'll gotta be so Mean?"

Mr. Mayor,

Thank you for clearing that up.

You are an absolute wizard at discerning these nuances of the Republic. A CHEESE-WHIZ, as it were.

We are so lucky to have your expertise, you must be SWISS with your ability to see the holes in their folly.

The attempt of these miscreants to pull this off must really GRATE on such a personnage as yourself.

It is so great to see someone such as yourself MUNSTER the effort to expose their perfidy.

Here's hoping that you can MELT their ambitions before they start.
