WAREHAM — Seven people, including five children, were taken to Tobey Hospital on Saturday morning after a serious accident on Route 25 West, just east of Route 195 in Wareham.

Two of the children suffered serious injuries after both vehicles involved in the accident rolled over.

According to a release from state police, troopers from the Bourne barracks responded to the scene around noon after receiving reports of a two-car rollover.

The Wareham Fire Department, the Bourne Fire Department, and the Department of Transportation Highway Division also assisted at the scene.

Police say that a 1999 GMC Suburban driven by Daylene Tropeano, 41, from Buzzards Bay and carrying five children, was travelling in the center lane when it was approached from the rear by a 1999 Toyota Avalon operated by Louise Houle, 66, from Falmouth.

A preliminary investigation by Trooper Kevin Brito determined that the Toyota made contact with the Suburban.

The contact forced both vehicles to roll over, according to the release.

The GMC then came to rest on its side in the wooded median, scattering children's toys over the ground, while the Toyota landed on its roof in the breakdown lane.

An 11-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl suffered serious injuries and were transferred from Tobey to Children's Hospital in Boston.

The remaining children, aged 7, 4 and 1 suffered only minor injuries as did both drivers.

Police did not identify the children.

During the investigation, traffic was confined to the right travel lane for approximately 2½ hours.

The accident remains under investigation by state police.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Bourne State Police barracks at (508) 759-4488.
