"The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior"

This is (partially) a repost from another thread..

This is what one city councilor (and others) had to say about the situation in which the City of Lawrence has to pay Mark Andrews "carry over" for fifteen weeks worth of sick time ($41,096) from his state job.

Patrick Blanchette, a city councilor for the past 10 years, said, until this week, he knew nothing about the deal made with Andrews.

"I think we would have questioned that," said Blanchette, the outgoing city council president. "Why would we accept sick time that accumulated somewhere else. We'd be on the hook for that?"

Lantigua's top aide, Lenny Degnan, said the deal is just more of the mounting evidence of financial mismanagement at City Hall during Sullivan's administration.

Sullivan's justification of the deal "is just him trying to cover his tracks on the way out," Degnan said. Nothing in the city charter allows this, he said.

And $$ going to legal fees (for the Mayor and his brother) instead of for silly things like, umm I don't know...Firefighter's and stuff..I'm sure that "popped out" on the resume when "Sweet Brucey & the Four Amigos" were interviewing him (and racking up 14 Open Meeting violations).

Blanchette had sharp words for Andrews, who said he backed the rotating closures because of the cost savings. But Blanchette blasted Mayor Michael Sullivan's administration, criticizing Andrews for not being able to find money when the "administration needs it."

The city has also paid $200,000 to a "silk stocking" Boston legal firm to represent Sullivan and his brother, former Mayor Kevin Sullivan, in a lawsuit, Blanchette said. "Those bills are being paid," Blanchette said.

Later, Blanchette suggested that Andrews' job should be rotated with several others in his office to save money, a seemingly sarcastic comment that drew applause from some audience members.

Don't forget the DWI's. It DOES matter to some employers.

What kind of "financial shape" is the city he just left in right now??

The city faces a $17 million budget deficit.
