The Wareham Police Department is investigating a series of overnight breaks into motor vehicles in a residential section of East Wareham. Twenty two motor vehicles were broken into while parked in their driveways. All of the vehicles that were targeted were unlocked. Police dispatchers began receiving reports from homeowners at around 0630 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 reporting the breaks. Investigating officer Kevin Reilly reported items that were stolen included an Ipod, an XM radio, a cell phone, and loose change.
Thieves will walk through neighborhoods or mall parking lots and look into car windows for valuables. If they see anything, even loose change, they will lift the door handle to see if it is unlocked and be in and out in seconds", reports public information officer William Fihlman.
Preventative measures include always locking your car and never leave valuables in plain sight. If you are out for a day of shopping, put your purchases in the trunk. At home, leave a light on overnight or install motion activated flood lights. Don't leave laptops, cell phones, GPS units, or purses in you car overnight. If you see any suspicious activity, call 911 immediately.

And if you're a selectman, make sure your car payments are up to date lest the Repo man comes for some repossessing.... And if you're a town administrator, please don't consume any cold ones before driving.

And if you are a Selectman or an TA or a pseudo-investigative reporter, do NOT put your tongue into a light socket.
