I have watched this clip twice now. I'm a bit confused, but not surprised at the inability to get anything right.
The BoS said they will not investigate/audit the library books themselves, but in their discussion they decided that the DA's office (District Attorney) is "compelled under law" to investigate. They say they will go with the DA on this.
Then Cronan makes the motion to have town counsel, Atty. Torres, meet with the AG (Attorney General) to "investigate the allegations." The motion passed unanimously.
So, if the motion says AG, I guess it will be the AG that must be contacted. They decide to contact the DA and make a motion to contact the AG!!! I had to watch it twice to make sure I wasn't mistaken. I guess all those different letters can get confusing!!
Either way, the library parties have nothing to hide and of course, will cooperate with either the DA's office OR the AG's office. I would imagine that first they will need evidence and as Larry M. said in his fine letter to the ST, the burden of proof is on the accuser. I'm sure if the accuser brings the two alleged trustees and the one alleged Friend who are also making accusations to the DA or AG and ask for their names to be protected, that can be done. In fact, it is done all the time. And of course, I'm sure the accuser will hand over the list he claims he has in his possession of 123 participants in the alleged "crime" which now includes three police officers. So I say, let the investigation begin.
As I've said before, the town's insurance attorney Peter Montgomery sat in our attorney Philip Beauragard's office and examined all the financial records, and could make copies of anything he wanted to. Surely, if anything had been amiss, it would have come out in the recent library/town litigation case. If the town's attorney could find nothing wrong with our books, I'm sure the AG/DA will come to the same conclusion. We have nothing to hide.
My opinion: When our local tabloid writer is proven beyond a doubt to have made up this entire story for the sole purpose of getting his hands on the financial records of the library parties, he will be finished. He has done more to harm Wareham than any one person or any 5 elected people put together. You can only blindly follow a person for so long. This will be his end.
