I laughed a good solid 5 minutes straight when I read this:
http://www.wickedlocal.com/wareham/news … erty-taxes
The Town has hired D'Ambrosio Law Offices to go after delinquent property tax deadbeats.
Hey, do they go after state and federal tax deadbeats too? If so, I've got a hot tip for them! There's a tax cheat that hangs out at the Multi-Service Center every Tuesday night!
How does that song go? "Isn't it ironic, don't ya' think?"
Seriously though, what's to stop one of our local tax dodgers from saying, "Hell, why do I have to pay a dime when the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen owes $181,000 to the state and federal government in back taxes?"
Sweet Brucey, pay your taxes!!!!

I don't understand why the Town is paying a law firm to collect overdue taxes.
The law firm can only do one thing: bill the Town for a lot of money.
The bottom line is that the Town has the lien. They can send in three hundred, or whatever, requests for land takings for taxes owed and liens levied they won't collect on, nor will they expect to. They never have...they never will.
It's a big game...one the Town shouldn't be involved with. They are not competent to get involved with this crap.
Let me know when the tax liens publication comes out, so I can buy some cheap property. I want to buy it from the Town so that I can demand, as the buyer, that the property is in "tip-top shape", as Dick Wheeler would say.
Imagine...the Town could be in the real estate business in competition with all of the people that depend on real estate to make a living. (Oxymoron in today's times?).
That's not the way it works.
If it was, we'd all be rich.
Don't' be fooled by foolishness.

I just think it is the ultimate in hypocrisy. Astounding hypocrisy.
The selectmen will turn a blind eye to Sweet Brucey spending his money on luxury cars and trips to Mexico instead of paying his taxes, but they'll hire a big Boston law firm to go after the little guy that owes taxes because they fell on hard times due to the bad economy.
Bobo, where's the outrage? I thought you said you and the BOS care about poor people...

Hey, Bobo!
I know you took a pledge not to read this site anymore, but while you're busy not reading it, do us a favor - when you start foaming at the mouth and write a tirade where you trip over yourself to defend Sweet Brucey's honor - either give us the time, date, and what court Brucey's alleged tax appeal is, or spare us the "he's appealing it" crap.
I don't know about you all, but I don't buy that "appeal" story at all. Some of those tax liens listed in the S-T were so old that I doubt they'd still be in appeals at this point.

QUOTE FROM JOHN FOSTER IN THE COURIER ARTICLE:
“The property owners have all been notified,” he said. “They actually get several notifications. They receive a demand, and the outstanding tax debt is advertised in local newspapers. We have to do that by law.”
Bobo, if you care about poor people as much as you say, then you won't accept any money from the town to help them advertise and go after the little guys out there who fell behind on their property taxes until the board of selectmen also demand that Sweet Brucey pay the taxes that he owes to the state and federal government.

BRUCE HAS NO INTENTION OF EVER PAYING THOSE TAXES. HE HAS NO CHILDREN SO WHEN HE PASSES THE GOVT WILL SELL THEIR HOUSE. THEY WONT LOSE ANYTHING.

I read the article and I think this is a good thing for the town. As someone who pays her taxes on time--in full--it always irks me that others who could pay their taxes don't.
What I like about this company is that it will not cost the town up front and that it works out a way for the people to pay their taxes. Ham is right about this being hard times and we don't want to foreclose and put people onto the street.
But any citizen who reaps the benefits of a taxpayer--sending children to school, road and beach maintenance, a good library, a strong police force and harbor master etc.---SHOULD PAY TAXES. Period.
So I am glad to see that the town is going after delinquents. And I am glad that it is being done not in a punitive way, but in a way that will help the people who need it most.
I have absolutely no respect for a person who drives an expensive car and takes Mexican vacations and does NOT pay his taxes. I can't imagine that an appeal would go on for so many years. He needs to find a good tax lawyer and get the issue resolved. He owes it to the people he serves.

The collection attorneys that the Town hired are just harassers.
They will send collection letters out to those who have not YET paid property taxes( some amounts are very low and will be paid quickly) advising them to pay or the Town will place a lien.
You need lawyers to do that? How about some seniors in High School working as interns doing it?
It is not brain science, and certainly is not worth paying these lawyers anything to do what any citizen could do or a person in elected office.
Another way to piss your money away.

I'm not against hiring a firm to collect delinquent property taxes, I'm just astounded by the hypocrisy of this board of selectmen being in favor of going after the little guy, but turning a blind eye to Sweet Brucey's tax dodging.
The little guys owe taxes because they have families, lost their jobs, etc. Sweet Brucey owes taxes because he likes luxury cars and trips to Mexico.
Let's go after all tax delinquents, not just the ones who are not lucky enough to be a selectman and carry a reporter in their back pocket.
