Subject: Brain Teaser III
Larry, you are an endless source of amusement. Clearly you still lack the ability to recognize a hypothetical. I never actually said I received my information from town employees or department heads. Again, you make a faulty assumption. You assumed the only source I could have is the selectmen. I was merely pointing out other possibilities. And what makes you think the library trustees are out of the woods? Yet another assumption. I never said there was porn on the chief's computer. Another assumption. In fact, I have revealed very little about what this audit is actually targeting.
Perhaps the same people who shared certain things with me also shared those things with the selectmen.
And finally, why is it you lack the courage to respond to me directly. For all your tough talk on this site, it appears you are just taking your marching orders from Bob Brady. Am I too assume that it's OK to publish everything e-mail that you've sent me? Of course I wouldn't do that. That wouldn't show much class
This just doesn't get any better! How confusing is this? Actually, Cronan, in the taped 6 minutes of the Exec Session revealed pretty much what was going on. "I hope this audit finds something!" Anyone still have the quote from the Wareham Observer where a "source in the WPD" revealed there was porn on the Chief's computer? I don't have time to find it now (actually have work to do), but it would be helpful.
Bob, I need new marching orders :)

So, dish Bobo. If you've got any dirt, spill it. Isn't that your job? Oh, but you refer to "hateblogger" propaganda as "making your job easier". How? If you consider your job to focus on the discussions posted on this website, as I believe, then you're right. I wouldn't bash Larry too much, he's one of the few, on this side of the equation, who's still willing to get your side of the story on the issues discussed here and on your blog. Most of us have seen enough to know you are full of it, and don't care to hear what you have to say. We already know where you'll stand, with your head up your @$$.

p.s. I thought you weren't supposed to "engage" with us here on the darkside. If you are responding to posts here, and know your's are being posted, you are posting here (in effect) and "engaging". Bad Bobo, couldn't that screw up any designs you may have for a future lawsuit. Why don't you just get a screen name, announce it's you, and we can bash away at each other. I'm giddy with hopeful anticipation.

It would be a lot easier if he just posted here. He reads this site 24/7, so why not just go ahead and post?

UR,
The whole thing stinks. You don't know whether to believe Slager or the Selectmen, but there is a serious issue when Slager starts spouting in print that an off the record source has revealed to him it will be life changing. I was under the impression that EVERYONE involved in the audit signed confidentiality agreements. That means someone violated the agreements. In that case, there needs to be an investigation by the State ethics committee or some enforcement organization. That could also mean there could be other violations that might render the information useless. That would really make this a waste of money! So, it is simple, either slager is lying or someone made a really big boo-boo! I will state that this is indicative of the current elected officials and administration!
After reading your blogs, I think - intelligent. What about you e-mailing the State Ethics Committee. I think if you go to a site like Mass.gov.com you may find the correct email address. A brief description of what is going on could bring them speeding down here. If they don't know, they can't help. You could put it like a family tree and show how bad on top of bad has branched out to try and rot our roots. Go for it. What have you got to lose? What do we have to lose? Put the email out there and I will send it. I am sick every time I think of the problems all over town. Just sick.

I KNEW I WAS RIGHT ABOUT YOU AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU. I CAN'T GET OVER SLAGER. HE KNEW ABOUT THE AUDIT BEFORE THE SELECTMEN. DID HE TELL THEM SOMETHING THAT MADE THEM PERSUE THE "AUDIT"? UNLIKELY, BUT I CAN'T SEE HIM SITTING ON SOMETHING THAT IMPORTANT - HE WOULD BE SHOUTING IT FROM THE HIGHEST TREE. DID A TOWN EMPLOYEE TELL/LEAK IT TO HIM? I WOULD NEVER HAVE SIGNED ANYTHING FOR THE SELECTMEN. "SUE ME, I HAVE THE RIGHT NOT TO SIGN. IT ISN'T IN MY JOB DESCRIPTION AND DON'T BULLY ME". I SEE HIM NOSE TO NOSE, WHISPERING TO ONE OF THE WPD OFFICERS. ONE THAT WAS GIVEN A LOT OF DESK DUTY BY CHIEF JOYCE. HMMM, WHO WOULD THAT BE?

Here are some hot summer day musings. I’m really looking for information –please help to clarify my thinking-I don’t want to get slammed.
Questions regarding the Fall Town Meeting:
TOWN MEETING- civil service for a police chief seems to be a necessity-Is there really an argument against? If so what is the argument?
TOWN MEETING- housing for seniors (not assisted living) seems OK to me. Why has town meeting shot it down in the past? I realize that there is a land-use issue and the Selectmen spent unauthorized money on a consultant. I’m just trying to figure out why the town is opposed to senior housing.
TOWN MEETING- Charter Reform- is any part of this on the agenda for the upcoming town meeting? I assume that Charter Reform will take awhile. Are we talking Spring?
Questions regarding Charter Reform:
I retired to Onset about ten years ago.-I spent many summer hours here both in my childhood and when I was a much younger lass. I never paid any attention to town politics- just loved the town, the beach and the people. Now that I am a taxpayer ---I have a lot of questions.
Why, as a taxpayer, am I expected to attend both a town meeting and a fire district meeting to have any hope of having input to my taxes? A large portion of my tax bill is the add-on from the fire district. This town only has a little over twenty thousand people and we have separate fire and water departments? In what other community do the selectmen or the mayor not have the final say about fire department budgets? Who are these mysterious people on the Prudential Committees and how do we get to know them? How do we root out corruption and nepotism in this system? If there is a reform in the Wareham town government- it should start with the duel governments. Or am I all wet and missing basic facts?
Why should I be opposed to having a strong-mayor system of government? There are arguments for a change. It would dump the town moderator and all five selectmen in one fell swoop. A strong mayor could actually manage and lead the town, while the town council fought about street signs. I suspect that the selectmen support the mayoral form because John Donahue, Bruce and even Cronan might run for mayor. Ultimate power!!! However, it would be easier for our side to mobilize one articulate intelligent candidate against them. I’m certain there are strong arguments against a mayor-please help me see the light.

After George Coleman was arraigned I wrote this:
When I was leaving Slager and Officer Baptiste from Wareham were standing near the door. I asked Baptiste what would happen next to Coleman, whether he'd be leaving anytime so. He asked if I worked for a paper before he'd answer and I said I was freelance. Always a good answer. He told me Coleman would be held in a lockup at the courthouse until bail was set.
Slager and Baptiste, in uniform, were standing close together outside near the door to the court engaged in a conversation which I interrupted.

If the chief's position is taken out of civil service, the bos will tell the chief what to do. The chief would not be able to decide where he can spend his budget without the boards approval. He also cannot make managerial changes without their approval.
Basically the police chief will be like sanguinet is today.
In addition, they'd be able to fire him easily, and they can put in whomever they want, as long as the town manager agrees.
Hmmm, something to think about, huh?

Commonsense, think about a police chief who is "like Sanguinet is today". We have a chairman of the board of selectmen who has been arrested once or was it twice. The arrest and traffic stops were all proven to be legitimate, but the bull $hit spewed by the chairman and the rag was predictable. Now think about a police chief who is outside of the civil service job protection status. Will the chairman then be above the law. That is where he wants to be and what police chief under a contract with the town would ever support his officers on completely valid arrests against the chairman of the board. This is exactly where Sweet Brucie wants to be.
Another question is what impact will the felon have over the selection of the new chief? I am sure he will chose a real great chief!!
Especially with this cast of characters, this town must have a police chief with the protections necessary to do the job even when it means arresting the chairman of the board.

I have some thoughts on the prospect of moving the Chief job from Civil service. The move would limit the ability of the Chief to be objective. Many years ago, I worked for a large public company. Each location had a General Manager and Controller (accounting manager). They would work together, but the GM was not the supervisor of the Accounting Manager. THe reason they did this is because of previous issues. GM's would coerce the Controller to manipulate reports to make them look more favorable and if the Controller refused, the GM had the ability to terminate the Controller. By having the Controller on the same level as the GM, there could be no hanky panky. It allowed the Controller to make autonymous decisions without fear of repercussions from the GM.
If the Chief can no longer remain autonymous, you stand a real chance of corruption and manipulation. It's a system of checks and balances. If the current Selectmen are allowed to change this, we now have a Chief that will be "controlled" by the Selectmen.
