Thoughts:

1) Why aren't we doing anything to attract a hotel to Wareham?  Plymouth Rock Studios is coming.  A casino has been in the works for Middleboro for some time.  Combine regional offerings with Wareham's offerings and people might just spend a night or two...if they had a place to stay!

2)  Speaking of the casino, every town in the region has stuck its hand out for money to offset the impact of the casino on the nearby towns?  Where are our selectmen with their hands out?  Oh right, they're too busy punishing anyone who ever hurt Sweet Brucey's feelings.

3)  Commuter rail is like to come to the area at some point in the forseeable future.  What are we doing to prepare for the impact of people who want to work in Boston, but live in Wareham?  Will this mean a rise in population?  Are we preparing for the impact on public services?

4) The South Shore/South Coast areas are on the rise, believe it or not.  Yes, believe it or not, in the forseeable future, this area is going to be an area with attractions that people will want to see.  What are we doing to bring attractions to Wareham?

5) What are we doing to bring businesses to Wareham, and to keep existing businesses in Wareham?

6) When we have so many commercial properties that have sat vacant for years, why did our knucklehead selectmen come an inch away from putting a higher property tax burden on businesses? (They voted for it, then Cronie changed his mind and they revoted against it).

7)  Why aren't we building up our police force to fight crime that all this progress will bring?

This blows.  At a time when the region is moving forward, Wareham is stuck in reverse because all these wack jobs in charge can think about is using all of the power at their disposal to screw over anyone who ever looked at them crosseyed.

These are ideas that can help this town, ideas that you have NEVER heard from any member of this board, or from the President of Bobo Media, or his new friend, the sock puppet he talks to during those lonely nights at Rag HQ.

This is why these people are unfit to lead.  I hope we get some leaders in the future who will think, and not just think, but DELIVER on some of these ideas.

Local businesses made thousands of dollars off of this movie. With the film studio coming to Plymouth, Wareham needs to seize the opportunity to attract movie producers and other types of business to this town. How embarrassing that a town of this size and on major routes does not have a suitable hotel that tourists and business people would want to stay in.  There is a lot work to be done for sure. The town needs some serious cosmetic and infrastructure improvement in certain areas.

I was really suprised the actors and crew didn't stay at one of our spacious luxury motels like Silver Lake, Atlantic, Rosewood or even the two story White Pines!! Yeah Right!!!!

I was reading the stupidity of the Hypocrite Elite Bloggers on the S-T site, so let me clarify:

1)  I never said we should bring a casino to Wareham.  But whether we like it or not, a casino is coming to Middleboro.  Other communities further away from Middleboro than Wareham have been putting out their hands asking for money to offset the impact the casino will have on their towns.  Why aren't our selectmen doing the same?

2)  Will Plymouth Rock Studios be the answer to every problem we have?  No, but it isn't going to help us out at all if we don't have some amenities in this town that visitors to the studios can take advantage of.

3)  Think regionally.  We need a hotel, and as another poster wrote above, I have also heard that a developer has put off plans to build a hotel because he figures that the selectmen would just run him through the ringer so why bother.

Put a hotel in Wareham (a real one, like a Holiday or Hampton Inn) and you'll see a local economy boom.  Right now, the tourists we have are day trippers and passers through.  People might actually spend a night and spend some money with a hotel.

We're at the junction of 495 and 195 and just minutes from the Cape.  Why don't we have a hotel?

Plymouth Rock studios comes in, and people who work on the movies will take advantage of it as a place to stay.  More money spent in town.  I have heard that many actors and other workers on the Sandler film stayed in other nearby towns and were shuttled in.  That's some money our town could have grabbed.

A casino comes to Middleboro.  Gamblers might spend the night and spend some money in our town.

We keep hearing that commuter rail might be coming.  Tourists from Boston will spend the night and spend and spend some money in town.

With more tourism, there will be more business opportunities.  We'll see revitalization and maybe some of the commercial properties that have sat abandoned, looking crummy and inviting crime will be put to use.

If we want to bring more tourism, we need to realize that changes are coming to the region, and we need to think of ways to help our community profit from that change, instead of being left out in the cold due to short sighted and narrow minded leadership.

We need a hotel, for starters.

The selectmen can think about this, or they can keep thinking of new and ingenius way to screw over people they don't like on the taxpayer's dime.  Up to them.  They'll find out at the ballot box.
