Last weekend's traffic to the Cape is a beacon!  Both Thurs and Fri the traffic on 25 to the Bourne Bridge was backed up almost to the Glen Charlie overpass, and maybe beyond that after the accident on the Sagamore Bridge (after I went by).  My friend, headed to Hyannis but who has visited me in Wareham, got off at Exit 1, stopped for dinner (at Lindseys) and groceries, and went through the Buzzards Bay rotary at 8pm with little backup.

I know we will ever revert to to the traffic from the 70's and 80's (where I personally worked long, lucrative shifts at Frates) but I think there is some viablilty in pursuing a "rest stop" idea that could revitalize Cranberry Highway and subsequently Wareham/Onset/Buzzards Bat in general as a destination.

So there are obvious highway reconstruction needs - is there anyone seeking state money and help for this kind of thing a la "shovel-ready" projects?  And aside from infrastructure, are there any marketing plans from the COC or other regional tourism bodies?  No doubt Buzzards Bay could also benefit from re-routed Cape visitors so town to town communication is needed but probably not happening?

Just an idea - ok now shoot.

One additional thought - there are highway overpass signs that warn of upcoming accidents, traffic, etc.  But there isn't one or more on 495/195/25.  These signs don't need to be Mass Highway enabled if they are the portable ones that sit on the side of the road (ALERT BACKUP AHEAD 5 MILES TO BRIDGE ALT RTE EXIT 1).  The town just needs a plan to update them and route savvy travelers off the highway during peak travel times and store these big signs during the winter.  Would need the police and public works in Wareham to do that tho, and that is apparently an issue.  Wonder if these portable signs could be shared...
