I know this has been mentioned in a previous post, but only parts of it. Plus, I wanted to have it. The best thing about the latest "observer opinions" is that it was written JUST FOR US! That's right. He knows his only audience is us. The crap listed below is about comments that were made here Friday. The day after the rag is regurgitated.....
Oh, the hate bloggers are at it again. Now they are claiming the Observer is somehow "biased" because Walter Cruz responded to our 10 questions for selectmen candidates and Cara Ann Winslow did not. Let's make this as clear as possible. In the March 19 and March 26 editions of the Wareham Observer, we printed a comprehensive explanation of our election policy. We asked candidates for the Board of Selectmen and the School Committee to respond to a list of 10 questions, which we published both weeks. We provided detailed information as to how to return those response to us.
So basically, the Rag Man, who considers himself a "real journalist" is too lazy to get off his butt and mail the questions to the candidates. Or even call them or visit their website. Or say approach them at the post offices on weekends.
In order to talk to a "real journalist" you have to contact him. That's journalism!! Funny the only two to respond are the two supported by the BOS. I kinda picture they were contacted by someone (say the donahues) and told to answer your questions.
Walter Cruz and Lynne Burroughs returned their responses. The other candidates did not. We made no attempt to contact any of the candidates to encourage responses. We simply printed our questions in the paper for two straight weeks. If candidates wished to respond, they could. It was up to them.
Funny that they picked you. Since Mr. Cruz is a candidate for Selectmen, I figured he would be picking up all the Town papers like the Wareham Courier, and would want the townspeople to hear what he has to say. Wait, I'm getting ahead of myself here...
According to the bloggers, Winslow didn't know about the questions. That's rather shocking to us. We would think that anyone running for office (or at least one of their supporters) would be reading every single newspaper that covers the Wareham area. During her entire campaign, Winslow made no effort to contact the Observer. That's why we're having a hard time swallowing accusations that we did not provide her an opportunity to share her viewpoint. We chose the fairest possible path by printing the questions in the paper for two weeks and allowing the candidates to respond.
Completely going against what you've done in the past, where you e-mailed the candidates to get their responses.
Ironically, Winslow responded to questions from the Courier and Cruz did not. Why aren't the hate bloggers accusing the Courier of being biased? We're pretty sure we already know the answer.
The courier stated they sent the questions to Mr. Cruz and he did not return them. You didn't even make the effort that the Courier did. You didn't even send questions. For someone who jumps all over partisan hacks, you're sure are showing that you've become the very thing that you claim to hate.

Yeah, well, look around. Press releases are ALL that appear anymore in the Standard Times. Hell, the NYTimes is looking for ANY excuse at all to pull the plug on the Globe. They're all living on borrowed time.
None of the candidates answered our questions, which you think about it is plain pathetic.
