From the Courier -
http://www.wickedlocal.com/wareham/home … g-proposal
That is a disturbing proposal indeed. Sanguinett apparently wants all town department heads and employees to send all press releases to him before they go out to the press, so that the town can speak "in one voice."
Or in other words, so the town can speak in Bruce's voice. Because we all know the BOS is behind this proposal, and Sanguinett is just their patsy.
It's obviously directed to the police department's decision to defend itself against the onslaught of outrageous lies thrown at them.
Control of information with an iron fist has always been the key to the BOS' power. The BOS tells a lie, their enforcer, the Ragman prints that lie and smears all detractors, and then in the minds of the dopey masses, that lie becomes truth. If they can cut off press releases from the police department, then the BOS/Ragman smears will be the only version the public hears.
It's clearly directed toward the police department. The Chief defended an officer who was sandbagged and lied about in an open forum without the chance to defend himself, the Chief announced the findings of a Bristol DA investigation clearing another officer that was lied about, the Chief further responded to Bruce's ramblings about his own arrest. In short, the chief told the truth, and when the public hears the truth, it blows the BOS out of the water.
Should Bruce really get the power to rewrite press releases about himself if he ever has another run in with the law?
It's aimed at the police, but it doesn't just work against the police. The BOS wants free reign to attack and smear the good names of all town employees and to cut off any ability the employees have of defending themselves in the press.
I doubt this policy will stand when free speech is protected by the Constitution. If it does, then it's time to give up and write Wareham off as a lost cause altogether.
And of course, the Ragman will continue to applaud the BOS as the defenders of free speech.
Because that's what good lackeys do.

Oh, and I guess I'm psychic, because the Ragman says he's not "warm" on the idea, but says it is understandable given what the Chief has put out, and now reporters will be forced to report.
What? Getting only the BOS controlled TA's side will make reporters be better reporters?
Yes Brucey, yes brucey, whatever you say brucey, yes brucey...

Not surprising that the Ragman is ok with a policy that means the public only gets the BOS spoonfed news...that's always been the Rag's style anyway. That the Chief who is suing him would be silenced under this proposal is just icing on the cake.
Oh, I forgot, the Ragman is the champion of free speech. Yes Brucey, yes Brucey, hold on let me get my notebook so I can write down every word you say Brucey, yes Brucey, whatever you say Brucey...

does everyone get it. it is funny in this forum but think about it 1984 george orwell hitler and stalin first line of offense control the media. This is no joke people and we are the only ones paying attention. first bruce wants to approve what we all put on our loved ones memorial and now he wants to silence department heads free speech
there will be no stopping him if that happens the public already gets their ready made subjective side of the story but i guess that isnt enough. more power less democracy more power less democracy

Ham you are right. The new policy was proposed by, I do believe Bruce, when Brenda brought up the news release sent to the newspaper on town stationary and brenda said something to the effect that she hoped it wasn't written while he working.
You are right, Wareham is in a sad state. Our only hope is that these people lose all the suits against them. If they win, Wareham will be completely destroyed. I have faith that justice will be served and all those that have been abused by the vicious trio will win and win big.....

Each hour of the Bruce and Brenda show gets a dress reheasal. The public are spoon fed bullshit. And we're not reaching them.
Sauvegeau loses Slager? Who needs him?
The people with jobs they know they'll lose haven't stood up.
Residents haven't a clue yet how badly they'll get fucked.
We need to reach these people, boys and girls.

I don't know anything about the regulations that the Chief must follow, but I would think if the Bag of Rags said everything needs to go through them.....wait a minute, what's that got to do with policy? They only set policy, not run the business.

The TA (or BOS through the TA) don't just want press releases cleared, they also want every town employee to get permission from the TA before they talk to the media and clear what they say with the TA before they say it to the press. From thereon, any time you read any quote in the newspaper, youll know it went through the TA first. The effect is that every paper will essentially become a rag.
So the BOS can lie about you, and if youre a town employee, what do you think the TA will say if you ask to go to the press to explain why the BOS' lie is wrong? A BIG FAT NO!
One Voice = Bruce's voice.
Anyone who is ok with that has no business calling himself a journalist.

And if you want to laugh yourself silly, check out these quotes from the BOS talking about the chief's press release, as quoted in the Rag.
QUOTH BRUCEY- ""All I can say is those statements were inflammatory, in bad taste and inappropriate,"
Yes, Bruce, you are a saint-like model of restraint.
QUOTH BRUCEY AGAIN - "It is inappropriate for a department head to discuss personnel matters, especially about someone in their own department."
It's also inappropriate for selectmen to hang town employees out to dry and string them up in the court of public opinion based on the word of whoever walks into the meeting room that night, but you and your BOS cronies do it night after night, week after week.
QUOTH BRENDA - "I’ve always been under the impression that personnel issues are not to be made public," Eckstrom said.
Yeah, this from the woman who all but publicly convicted the building inspector and urged the person coming in to complain to sue the town before the inspector's side was even heard.
These BOS turkeys talking about not talking about personel matters in public is laugh worthy everytime.
This TA imposed gag order should not be allowed to stand.

Keep in mind also Bruce was arrested a few months ago and a press release was issued I believe...should he really be commenting on a policy on police press releases at all at this point?

Another fine example of personal digs, in the Courier,
He also had harsh words for Police Chief Joyce.
“Bliss is trying to circumvent the ethics commission’s findings, thinks he can get away with it and the chief backs it all up. I have consistently and publicly said this chief long ago reached his level of competency and needs to resign or be placed out of office. The town of Wareham cannot tolerate this chief anymore.”

I would have to chalk up this to a rookie mistake. I've seen dozens of towns do the same thing, basically try and put a permanent gag order on every employee in the town with regard to every move the town makes. The simple truth is, you can tell an employee what to say while they are on the clock, but when they are off the clock it is freedom of speech all the way. This exact scenario has been played out so many times it's almost comical, with the same results every time.
The next step would be for someone who works for the town to say something that gets quoted in the media that the selectmen object to, then that person gets punished/fined/fired and doesn't like it and lawyers up.
In the end it's a simple test, on the clock follow the rules unless it puts someone at risk, off the clock say whatever you want. I wonder if the BOS is going to learn this the hard way?
It's almost laughable how towns make the same mistakes as other towns, there really should be a class for elected officials.
