In last week's rag, the ragman criticized the Friends of the Library for working hard and raising money to support the Spinney Library instead of supporting and raising funds for the Cape Verdian Cultural Center. Since he feels so strongly about the Cape Verdian Center, why didn't he hold the man of the year to the same standards...or it is always going to be double standards?

You know there is ALWAYS a double standard with Slager. Example: prior Selectmen's violating Open Meeting Law vs. current Selectmen violating Open Meeting Law. It's almost pointless to question his standards.

most of you are probably too young but it was a priviledge to be tapped to do anything in your community years ago. it was your civic duty.
if i hear one more time how these people are not paid and should be given some leeway i am going to throw up. yes they are not paid. they never have been. but the difference is they generally had jobs and were gainfully employed.
this is strictly voluntary and instead of whining about something that you fought to get elected to just do it or quit
that is why there is a ta so you can meet once a week and do whatever it is you do
you want to control everything because you have no control in your own lives go ahead just dont cry and whine.

This BOS is determined to drive a wooden stake through the heart of that legacy once and for all.
Colonial Times On Buzzards Bay
William Root Bliss, 1889
"THE object of all town meetings was "to know the Town's Mind;" whether it was for doing this, or for doing that, or for doing something else....
The colonial town meeting was evidently an institution of New England origin, and not an imitation of anything that had existed on the other side of the Atlantic. It was a primary and not a representative assembly."
