Defamation charges against former Selectmen Bruce Sauvageau and Brenda Eckstrom will finally reach trial after Sauvageau's claims of First Amendment protected speech were rejected, for a second time, in Superior Court late last month.

Wareham Police Officer Charles Pillsbury and his wife Cara filed suit for comments Sauvageau and Eckstrom made during September, 2008 and June, 2009 Wareham Board of Selectmen meetings.

According to court documents, Officer Pillsbury will argue his rights were violated through "threats, intimidation or coercion" when Sauvageau accused him of "acting in his official capacity with racist motivations." The lawsuit alleges Eckstrom issued "unprovoked and unwarranted" statements that were "false and made with malice," publicly accusing Officer Pillsbury "of being unfaithful to his wife".

Both Selectmen's remarks were televised and appear below. Jury selection and trial date in Plymouth Superior Court were not set.

Who is paying for Sweet Brucie's legal defense?  Speaking of SB, where has he been over the past year...doesn't like being a two time loser?
