Good afternoon.

This article from today's Boston Globe ought to stir some thoughts & comments. I have posted on BillW's sites a number of times regarding the process that other Towns use to select a Chief of Police. This article addresses a number of salient points in regard to the process; including civil service, the role of Town Meeting, the use of a selection committee, and most important  -  an OPEN process.

That's the way it should be done!!!

I still believe that a Civil Service exam for Chief should be called for...however, the Town Meeting in Natick decided to remove Civil Service, but, still kept every step of their hiring process in the open.
No secret negotiations to try and dupe the public into thinking that they are getting something better than it really is, or ignoring the members of the Police Department.

Thanks for posting it Stewie...
