So  what's tghe deal on the Town's tax rate?

Does the Bd. of Assessors have their values certified by the DOR? Do they have the new growth certified by the DOR?

After the discussion regarding the contract for accounting services, (just how much are those two bids, anyway?), The esteemed Andrews stated that he/they were in the "process" of submitting the accounting forms & schedules to the DOR, before babbling incoherently about last year's submissions.

He stated that "the State has until December 31 for the tax rate". That is totally incorrect. The Town  is responsible for submitting assessing & accounting data in a timely fashion to allow the DOR to review and approve the data used to calculate the tax rate. The DOR has NO requirement regarding timing. If it ain't there, or it ain't right, the DOR will NOT shortcut the process. Many tax rates have been delayed until SPRING, while the data is sorted out, corrected, etc.

Was that a deliberate misleading statement by the T/A?

Tick tock. It is now December 21. Do you know where the tax rate is?

By the way, the Board of Assessors has had classification hearings with both the Wareham Fire District & and the Onset Fire District. What are the proposed tax rates for the Districts? Anybody noticed any public notice on these? After all. they are 20 % +/- of your total tax bill. No big deal.
