2011-08-28, Boston.com: Today’s lesson: Schools taking a bigger bite out of budgets

Communities that reduced their proportional education spending generally did so by small amounts; reductions reached 3 or more percent in Pembroke, Foxborough, Walpole, and Hull. Wareham appears to have dropped the most, though its number was missing from the Department of Revenue data. Bliss said the town had not submitted the numbers.

According to data the Globe obtained from town and school officials, Wareham cut the percentage of its general-fund expenditures on education 12.7 percentage points over a five-year period, from 59.3 percent to 46.6 percent.

"According to the DOR. the town had not yet provided the data to the state. It is not clear if the numbers provided by Wareham are 100 percent comparable to the DOR database."

Wareham is the only town with this note.
