I would like to respond to the concerns of the Wareham community regarding the recent closing of our restaurant at 2895 Cranberry Highway.

We opened our Friendly’s Express at 2421 Cranberry Highway at Wareham Crossing on July 7. At that time, it was not our intention to close the original restaurant.

However, several emergent factors contributed to the decision to close the restaurant; first, our lease was expiring in January 2011, second, there was trade area uncertainty, third and most importantly, based on the preferences of our customers, it no longer made sense for us to continue to operate at two locations in the same town. The new Friendly’s Express provides Wareham customers with a faster, more contemporary restaurant that better suits their needs.

Our 2895 Cranberry Highway restaurant employed 32 people, all of whom were free to apply for employment at other Friendly’s locations. Of those, six have sought employment at and have been hired by other Friendly’s.

We regret any inconvenience to our customers and employees that the closing has caused. We have been proud to be a part of the Wareham community for more than thirty years and intend to continue to serve the community for the long-term.

Sincerely,

Jim Sullivan
