Every time you navigate that treacherous SouthCoast intersection, you're convinced it has to be one of the most dangerous in the region.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Now you can find out.

The Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (SRPEDD) late today released a new report, “The Most Dangerous Crash Locations in Southeastern Massachusetts 2006-2008.” It's the list formerly known as the Top 100 Most Dangerous Intersections.

As the regional planning agency serving 27 cities and towns in southeastern Massachusetts, SRPEDD looks to increase public awareness of the dangers on area roads.

As part of that effort, this latest report “identifies the 100 most dangerous intersections, as well as locations with the highest number of pedestrian and bicycle crashes, road departure crashes, red light running crashes and fatal crashes,” SRPEDD officials said in a press release.

“The purpose of this report is to inform the public of the dangers that exist on our roads and initiate actions that will generate improvements to make them safer for all users,” officials said.

SRPEDD is releasing this report to coincide with its Regional Transportation Plan. Officials said the Plan is a comprehensive, long-term analysis of existing and future needs of the regional transportation system.
