A friend writes today to dismiss our misbegotten police department as amateurs.

Next door, in East Haven, CT, she says, "Chief One is on administrative leave because he arrested the mayor.  Chief Two is acting chief and does most of the work.  Chief Three is chief-in-waiting and can't have a badge or gun because he isn't certified to be a police chief.  All three are getting chief's salary."

Top that, Wareham!

I'll see your your East haven, CT, and raise you Stoughton, MA.

chief One was indicted based on bad stuff done by one of his sergeants  -  Chf one was on Adm leave with full pay & benefits  -  for FOUR years.

chief Two hired on on interim basis, chief's pay.

Before chief two's term was up, the town had Chief three on the payroll.

All three getting paid to be Chief at one time.

Finally, the town assigned one of the SPD to be the interim chief, getting it down to a mere two chiefs being paid. One problem: the new interim chief was a SERGEANT on the SPD, thus by-passing and pissing off the lieutenants. yes, there was a lawsuit, and yes the town paid.

In the end, the Town formed a search committee (a foreign concept to the town of Wareham) and appointed a permanent chief from Framingham. This, after Chief No. 1 was found guilty of covering up bad stuff done by one of his sergeants.

BUT, the courts have REVERSED the original conviction of the bad dude sergeant. Now, Chief No. 1 is appealing his conviction  -  if his sergeant is NOT GUILTY, how can the Chief Be GUILTY of covering anything up? So goes the argument.

Meanwhile Chief No. 1 has:

a. Sued the Town for to pay has legal fees in excess of $600K,, and
b. Billed the town for unused vacation, sick leave & overtime to the tune of another $600K +/-

OK Bill. It's around to you. Do you raise or call?

Another disappointment for Richard Stanley.

Joseph Solomon reinstated as Methuen police chief.
