Good evening, fellow futbol fans of the World cup.

By now, you have heard the annoying, incessant, deafening buzzing noise of the "vuvuzela" at the matches in the World Cup in South Africa. But, did you know that the etiology of that instrument of hearing impairment includes the Town of Wareham. that would be your town , ya'now.

It seems that a young scholar from South Africa was making his way thru the USA in order to learn more about local government. A stop in Wareham was part of his itinerary. As luck would have it, he walked into the meeting of the Wareham Board of Selectmen just as a certain Selectperson ( no names, the initials are B.E.) was rising to fever pitch during one of her signature rants. the young south african sat mesmerized by the loud, nasty tone and grating, droning quality of her verbal screed. In his notebook, he entered one word, combining English with his knowledge of local South African dialects.

The Word: BRENDAZELA

Upon his return home, he heard a horn blaring during a meeting. It was designed to create noise at the upcoming World cup matches. BrendaZela! he cried. Well, his fellow meeting members didn't want a name connected directly to the USA, so they adopted the name of VuVuZela for the noisemaker.

So now, the whole world gets to be annoyed by the very noise which has annoyed Wareham for far too long. Watching the matches on TV, you can always turn down the sound to escape the cacophony. In Wareham, there is an equally simple way to stifle the buzz:
