In 1951, a longshoreman from SanFrancisco wrote a book entitled The True Believer. it has gone thru 23 editions since the original.  He went on to write many more books, all while working as a longshoreman.

His name is eric Hoffer. He received a Medal of Freedom from President ronald reagan.

His writing resonates today in the current election battle in Wareham. His thesis was that a certain mindset was attracted to the Lenin/Trotsky and Hitler/goebbels type movements. The mindset of the True Believer.

They are attracted by the promise of a glorious future (Move Wareham forward).

The adherents need  to be willing to sacrifice themselves for the future goals (EllenB & the Schneide)

There is a need to devalue the past (power elite?) and the present (Take Wareham Back).

The movement appeals to frustrated people (tin foil hat crew).

the movement appeals to people who want to escape a flawed self by creating an imaginary self and joining a collective whole (the Sunday night follies)

Some categories of people who may be attracted to such movements include misfits (!) and people who feel thwarted in their endeavours.

Isn't it amazing that this uneducated, but brilliant man could see Wareham over a half century beyond his writings; writings which are based on the events of the first half of the 20th century. That's because, of course, that the French saying fits right here. Plus ca change, plus la meme chose. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

And isn't that precisely what Brucie the disingenuous, Cronan the Barbarian, curley the Stooge, and their disgusting lackey are seeking? Along with their cadre of True Believers?
