WAREHAM — Everyone who took out nomination papers for the April 6 town election returned them by mid-afternoon Wednesday, easily meeting the filing deadline, according to Town Clerk Mary Ann Silva.
The next step is for the four-member Board of Registrars to verify that at least 50 signatures on each nomination petition are valid voter signatures.
By March 3, the registrars will formally present the results to the town clerk.
Candidates then have two more days to challenge the results or withdraw from their race.
Topping the ballot will be a six-person contest for two seats on the Board of Selectmen.
Two-term incumbent Bruce Sauvageau is seeking re-election, as is his one-term colleague John P. Cronan.
The remaining four include two newcomers and two former candidates.
Cara A. Winslow is attempting to clear the bar for selectman after falling short in last year's town election.
She is joined by Frank DeFelice, who ran unsuccessfully in 2008.
DeFelice had also taken out nomination papers for a three-year term on the Housing Authority Board of Directors, but opted for the higher goal instead.
The field for selectman is completed by Brock Tucy and Stephen Holmes.
In other races, the town clerk is up for re-election herself. Silva is challenged by Melodye Conway for a three-year term.
Town Moderator John Donahue is being opposed by Claire Smith.
On the School Committee, a seat being vacated by the departure of Robert Brousseau is sought by Lynne Burroughs and Rhonda Veugen.
On the Housing Authority, two seats are in play and the results may be a foregone conclusion.
Donald Hall is the sole candidate for a five-year term, and Patricia Zimmer is the only candidate for a three-year term.
On the Board of Assessors, only Mary Ann Morse has taken out papers to fill the vacancy being created by the departure of Robert Barry.
The last day to register to vote in the April 6 election is Wednesday, March 17.
The town clerk's office will remain open until 8 p.m. that day for the purpose of registration.
