One of the things pointed out as a flaw in our current form of government by the CRC, in their public statement, "DO WE NEED A NEW FORM OF GOVERNMENT", was:
"Because there are only 2 sessions of Town Meeting a year, difficulties cannot be addressed in a timely way, leaving more and more decisions in the hands of the Town Administrator. This lack of on-going ability to respond to situations, crises, discontents in a timely way, of necessity has meant Warrants with 30, 40, 60 Articles, daunting numbers, further dissuading many voters from showing up."
Since there are 23 Articles on this Fall's Warrant, I wanted to see what the average number was. Since 2004, a total of twelve meetings, (excluding special town mtgs., which generally have much less) the average is 34, with only Spring '09 having 60. Is that "daunting"? I don't know, but it's not what was presented.
