under the so called power elite selectmen a libary was built, a high school was built,a jr high school was remodeled,a senior citzens center built,anew shopping center came to town, the sewer plant doubled in size, a lot of areas like the weweantic area was sewered,a new food store came to town and maney are good things came to town. under these new selectmen we bot a new newspapper the rag, and i got a bad case of hemroids, we need change and change for the good lets throw these nuts out on their ass before we have any more wanting to run for state reps.

My question is this........ in our town government, we need a BOS correct? We have a group that the towns people voted in to the position as Selectman/woman. We ask why them? Its because the Town really hasn't ha any quality people put in for the position, so we end up with these Bozos. How can we as voters expect to get change when all the quality and educated people vote, but refuse to run for a critical position like the BOS. I agree we need a drastic change, I agree we need to redirect the direction this town is going. But how do we convince the good educated people to step up and run against some of these meatheads. If all we have to vote for is crap then we will surely get crap in return. I know this town has some incredably intelligant individuals who have some great ideas, and a general interest in the towns well being, we just need them to step up and take the bull by the horns. I know its easier said than done, but how long do we have to go before we see a positive change? I love this town, as most of us do,I'm just frustrated with all the BS. ummm sorry for venting.... I'm better now ...ahhhhhhh!!!!!!

By making the public's business truly public and by painting a picture voters can not ignore.
There are eloquent speakers in this town, gifted writers, too - people who have invested their entire lives here - but they've shut off the noise.
Only way I know to reassure voters history won't simply repeat is to make everything, all the town's business, online accessible; contracts, salaries, budgets, transcribed meeting minutes/video, tax assessments, the works.
Also, strictly limit the length of Selectmen's meetings to 90 minutes, tops, and record all executive sessions.

BILLW ,I think you have some insight here. I think that making everything accessible by all, may it be by internet, TV, or publishing the minutes of every meeting for those who wish to read them. The BOS have no problem putting everyone elses business out there for all to see, yet they seem to try and evade the public eye as much as possible. Is it beyond the voters rights to make some of your ideas a by-law??? I think you have the right idea BILLW.
Hamatron 5000 , I think you are also right. Why should anyone want to put themelves through the crap thats going on in this town. But then I ask, how do we get change? I sometimes wish I had more political savvy, then maybe I'd run. But unfortunately, political savvy I lack. There has to be someone out there that has what it takes to go toe to toe with some of these pseudo politicians we have running this town.
I guess we can just hold our breath and hope the whole damn thing implodes, then we can clean up the mess and maybe, just maybe try to do the right thing then.
