Regardless of what the rag said, this site had no negative effect on the election. In fact, the vote being so close shows that the site may have inspired more voters. The democratic town committee and voter apathy helped cruz win.

Commonsense and Molly are right, Cara Winslow does this stuff for a living and she couldn't get elected. No one knew who she was, but yet Slager went after her every single week. The last rag before the election he admitted that he had never even spoken to her. Despite never speaking to her (because apparently she didn't get the memo that she needed to contact him) he claimed she was endorsed by CBW, a member of CBW (false on both counts, CBW never endorsed any candidates and her name is no where on their website even today), and that the "hate bloggers" also endorsed her. I wasn't blogging then but reading them regularly and I never saw BillW endorse anyone.
The bottom line is that this town had a chance at a bright young woman who really new her stuff. When I saw her at OPL I was amazed at how she answered every question, with answers, all Cruz ever said was "there is a committee for that".
I am still angry that she didn't get elected. We need to have more people like her willing to take the time to serve the town.
Maybe the Chief will run next year, he would be a great candidate and that would really send the Donahue's for a spin!

Just wondering.  Is your candidate living up to your expectations?  If so what were these expectations.  I am disappointed in his performance so far.  When I have seen him at BOS meetings, he really does seem disinterested.  I expected him to bring some business expertise, but I haven't seen any of that yet.  I get the feeling he is in over his head.

I agree with IHATESLAGER, Cruz so far has done nothing except have coffee with Bindas and cause more trouble on that front. Too bad, I actually thought he was a pretty up-standing citizen, I just didn't think he had a clue about the job and he has proven that he doesn't.

I also do not think that this website cost Cara Winslow the election, there are few people who would vote for a candidate based on whether bloggers approved of them.

I do not believe the rag has any real influence at all on any topic for any reason. The vote was close, we are truly a divided community.

To be perfectly honest Mixie, no, he is not living up to my expectations....yet....I am hoping that his slow start is due to the fact that the political arena is new to him and that he prefers to observe and listen to learn the ropes before jumping in..."we have two ears and one tongue so we can listen more and talk less"...I believe you learn much faster and more efficiently that way...I don't think it's fair to judge Mr. Cruz yet...I would like to give him a real chance before I decide I made a mistake and need to make a better choice next time...

This is an interesting discussion - almost seems like there's enough room in the world for two discussion boards.  one to vent the anger, and another to have the discussions that searay proposed.  I completely understand the need to vent, but I can imagine that Granny Elma, who reads about the "hate bloggers" and comes over here to see expressions of that hate might be turned off by what she sees.  billw, would you be interested in setting up a second board on the site, with a specific focus?
